Svalbard - A key region of Arctic climate change

Keywords: ATMO, ICE, MODEL

Session 14 - Short Summary

Svalbard is among the regions most affected by climate change, with rapidly increasing temperatures and winter warming approaching the melting point. This session explores the atmospheric and surface processes driving Arctic climate variability and their impacts in the Svalbard region. Focus is set on trends in large and synoptic scale atmospheric dynamics, aerosols, moisture, clouds and precipitation. Particular attention is given to the links between atmospheric processes and the cryosphere, including changing snow cover, rain-on-snow events, albedo, and radiative energy fluxes. We welcome contributions on observations, ground-based and remote sensing, as well as modeling, that improve our understanding of trends and variability in the Svalbard region.
