Interactions of sea ice with the coupled Arctic climate system

Keywords: ICE, OCEAN, ATMO, ECO, MODEL

Session 09 - Short Summary

Sea ice is a central component of the Arctic climate system, interacting closely with the atmosphere, ocean, and ecosystem through exchanges of momentum, energy, mass, nutrients, and other constituents. This session invites observational and modeling studies that examine sea ice in the context of these coupled interactions, including sea ice dynamics and atmosphere–ocean drag, surface and under-ice energy budgets and thermodynamic processes, and the roles of snow and precipitation in sea ice evolution. We particularly welcome studies that explore how these processes interact across components of the Arctic system and influence sea ice growth, melt, motion, and variability. Together, the session will advance understanding of the processes governing sea ice and its role within the coupled and changing Arctic climate system.
